DOMINO Moisture Sensors and Sampling Instruments

Our new generation of sensors and sampling systems
The Doble
DOMINO family of moisture instruments continues to evolve. The
DOMINO PortaSampler has been replaced with the handheld, AC or battery-operated
DOMINO USS (Ultimate Sampling System). The models in the 100 and 200 series have been replaced with new, permanent-mount versions that have updated features. As before, the new
DOMINO instruments remain rugged and field-portable. Even the permanent-mount sensors can be easily moved if desired. All
DOMINO instruments measure water content continuously. The measuring technology is based on the change of capacitance of a thin polymer film.
We have also expanded our moisture-measuring capability to gases, including SF6, through the use of a dewpoint probe available in the DOMINO USS systems. All your moisture-sensing needs for substation and oil processing applications are now available from one trusted source.
Since 1999, when DOMINO sensors were first introduced, they have been found to be suitable for a variety of applications, including the following:
- Oil filtration, processing, and sampling
- Generator thrust bearing oil monitoring
- Testing and monitoring of lubrication oil and hydraulic oil
- Transformer online monitoring
- Laboratory testing of transformer oils
- Dewpoint of air, nitrogen, helium, argon, and SF6
Provides continuous, reliable measurement of the water content of electrical insulating liquids and other types of oils
This is our new generation of moisture-in-oil instruments. They have the same functionality as their predecessors but with even better features, including data storage, easier menu navigation, clearer display, and graphing capabilities. These systems are even more robust, with a higher pressure withstand capability on the probe. All measured values (relative saturation, temperature, and ppm) are now available on one screen, with no need for scrolling. All units come with a standard RS-232 connection and at least two analog outputs; several models have three analog outputs. These small but powerful instruments are well suited for various applications where moisture-in-oil monitoring is needed.

The fast, convenient way to take high-quality samples
As a direct replacement for the PortaSampler, the USS takes a portable sampling system to the next level. Extremely versatile, robust, and portable, it is powered by a rechargeable battery or AC adapter and can be used anywhere. Also, the indicator to which the sensing probes are attached can monitor two probes at once. With the included DOMINO Connects software, it is a simple process to download the data from the instrument and transfer it to Microsoft Excel for easy viewing and manipulation. The USS is provided in three convenient systems:
- Moisture-in-Oil USS (USS-MIO). This is a portable instrument for onsite measurement of the water content in oil. It assures that oil samples collected for laboratory testing are of high quality. The instrument measures relative saturation (RS) and temperature and reports ppm. It includes a handheld indicator, oil probe, sampling manifold and valve fittings, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, AC adapter/charger, and carrying case.
- Dewpoint USS (USS-DP). This is a portable instrument for onsite measurement of the dewpoint of gases (air, nitrogen, other inert gases, and SF6) and temperature. It includes a handheld indicator, dewpoint probe, gas-sampling manifold and connecting fittings, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, AC adapter/charger, and carrying case. An added benefit is that the DEWPOINT sensor is not fouled by oil vapor, as other dewpoint sensors are.
- USS Complete (USS-COMP). This system incorporates both the MIO and DP USS and includes an additional moisture-in-oil probe. USS-COMP is used for onsite measurement of water content in oils and gases. It measures relative saturation (RS) and temperature and reports ppm of the oil and the temperature and dewpoint of gases. The system includes a handheld indicator; one dewpoint probe and manifold to measure dewpoint in air, nitrogen, other inert gases, and SF6; and two oil probes, to make two simultaneous moisture measurements, such as the incoming and outgoing oil from an oil processor. It also includes an oil sampling manifold and valve fittings to connect to an oil drain valve, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, AC adapter/charger, and carrying case.
All USS systems are expandable—both the DP and MIO probes can be ordered separately as your needs grow.
