Behind the Scenes of the Doble Client Committees
In one sentence, the Doble Client Committees are a resourceful community forum that understand the importance of sharing information pertaining to the reliability and safety of electrical system apparatus and maintenance. The ultimate objective is to equip electrical power system asset owners, operators, and maintenance personnel with the knowledge and insights necessary to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable electrical power system.
The eight uniquely-focused Client Committees provide value to Doble Clients by sharing experiences, new technologies, systemic concerns, and lessons learned. Tutorials and panel sessions, whose topics are directed by the vote of Committee members, are provided annually.
Behind the scenes, each Committee is responsible for developing and distributing an agenda before the meetings to prepare Clients for the planned discussion topics. Each Committee meeting will commence with an opportunity to address any pertinent safety topics or concerns, aiming to prevent any life-altering incidents.
Experiences related to testing or maintenance practices are the focus of the meetings, along with discussions concerning company policies and procedures. This forum allows Clients to enhance their understanding of best practices within the industry. The Committees are tasked with overseeing projects that focus on a specific apparatus or practice. Following each of the bi-annual meetings, the committee officers document these discussions and publish the reports for the benefit of all Doble Clients.
Most of the Committees have previously created Reference Books and Guides that compile a variety of practices, procedures, and experiences into a centralized resource. Any Client may propose ideas for projects, and all Clients are encouraged to participate in these initiatives.
Topics best suited for a panel session or tutorial are deliberated during the Client Committee Meetings. Any Client can suggest ideas for tutorials or panel sessions, and these potential topics will be voted on by the Committee members present. The Committee officers will then take responsibility for organizing these sessions and identifying industry experts who would be best able to address specific topics.
Technical questionnaires are frequently structured based on the discussions that take place during Committee meetings. Any Client has the opportunity to propose a Technical Questionnaire, wherein members of a specific Committee are surveyed to gain insights into their company’s approach to a particular subject. This feedback is often invaluable when evaluating how to implement improvements within their organization. The majority of Client Committee Meetings concentrate on planned discussion topics and an open forum.
All submitted papers and presentations undergo a review process conducted by Doble Client Service Engineering and the Conference Technical Coordinator to guarantee that the highest quality of work is presented to the Committee members. The committee secretaries are committed to ensuring that Clients receive pertinent and precise information.
Finally, all Doble Clients have access to the Doble Knowledgebase, which is a compilation of all Committee activities, reports, projects, and papers offered, dating back to the early 20th century.
The committee faces a significant amount of work prior to each conference. It is a challenging task, but it is essential as they are contributing to the Doble legacy, and the members play a crucial role in that.
Continuing the legacy of the Doble Client Committees is a complex venture. The diligent efforts of Committee members, authors, presenters, and officers persist in enhancing the knowledge-sharing foundations set by Doble nearly 100 years ago.
