LTC and breaker analysis programs
Doble has developed the LTCare Program and the Breaker Analysis Program for owners of both types of equipment to optimize their maintenance programs using the knowledge from Doble’s diagnostic package of tests.
Doble’s LTCare Program
Doble Engineering Company has developed a special program for load tap changer owners to optimize their maintenance programs using the knowledge from Doble’s diagnostic package of tests.
LTCs can fail mechanically, electrically, from wear and from deterioration due to local fouling and subsequent overheating. Contacts will eventually wear out, losing the ability to adequately perform their intended function. Doble’s program has been very successful in detecting problems in LTCs and helping identify and prioritize where to spend limited maintenance funds. Like other Doble services, the LTCare program is a cooperative effort between the participating customer and Doble. In return for the low test package cost, Doble asks participants to share their information from field inspections and investigations. The Doble LTCare program tests include those for dissolved gases in oil, particle count, microscopic particle examination, Doble Carbon Code, several oil quality tests and metals-in-oil (for the LTCare+ program).
Advantages of the LTCare Program
Condition-based maintenance works with the proper tools. Doble’s LTCare Program focuses your maintenance efforts where evidence proves it is required. The advantages of the Doble LTCare Program include:
- A diagnostic program that does not require equipment outages, therefore providing the utmost in work management flexibility
- Identifies problem tap changers before failure – thus reducing system outages
- An irreplaceable aid in prioritizing maintenance functions
- Reduces time-based maintenance and the associated expense. Why waste time and money maintaining well working LTCs?
- Reduces overall costs of maintenance by being selective
- Less intrusive than internal visual inspection.
- A critical component of a comprehensive condition assessment program for LTCs

Doble Breaker Analysis Program
Doble Engineering Company has developed a special program for bulk oil circuit breaker (OCB) owners to optimize their maintenance programs using the knowledge from Doble’s diagnostic package of tests.
Breakers can fail mechanically, electrically, and from deterioration because of local overheating. Moving parts eventually wear out, losing the ability to adequately perform their intended function. Doble’s program has been very successful in detecting problems in OCBs and helping identify and prioritize where to spend scarce maintenance funds. Like other Doble services, the DBA program is a cooperative effort between the participating customer and Doble. In return for the low test package cost, Doble asks participants to share their information from field inspections and investigations. The Doble DBA program tests include those for dissolved gases in oil, particle count, microscopic particle examination, several oil quality tests, and metals-in-oil (for the DBA+ program).
Advantages of DBA Program
Condition-based maintenance works with the proper tools. Focus your maintenance efforts where there is evidence it is needed. The advantages of the Doble DBA program include:
- A diagnostic program that does not require equipment outages, thus providing the utmost in work management flexibility
- Identify problem breakers before failure thus reducing system outages
- An irreplaceable aid in prioritizing maintenance functions
- Reduces time-based maintenance and the associated expense. Why waste time and money maintaining well working breakers.
- Reduces overall costs of maintenance by being selective and is less intrusive than internal visual inspection
- A critical component of a comprehensive condition assessment program for OCBs
