Forward-thinking utility to take active role in power transformer conference
Watertown, MA, USA – February 4, 2013
Doble Engineering Company welcomes San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) as the host utility for the 2013 Life of a Transformer Seminar to be held February 18-21 in San Diego, California USA. The objective of the seminar is to empower the current and next generation of electric power engineers with in-depth, world-class training focused entirely on transformer design, operation and life-cycle management.
“Advanced training is critical to our industry’s progress and SDG&E’s industry leadership and experiences will benefit our seminar students,” said Don Angell, Vice President, Global Strategy and Solutions, Doble Engineering Company. “This is the first time we’ve had a host utility for the Life of a Transformer Seminar and we are pleased to be working with an innovative utility like SDG&E.”
“SDG&E is a leader in the smart grid transformation that is making our country’s electric grid more reliable and sustainable overall,” said Vic Romero, SDG&E’s Director of Asset Management and Smart Grid Projects. “We are proud to host this event and engage the next generation of engineers on these exciting changes that are happening in the utility industry. This is a unique opportunity for us to share our own experiences and expertise, as well as learn from the other presenters about how we can all benefit from this smarter, greener grid.”
Linda Brown, SDG&E’s Director of Substation and Transmission Construction and Maintenance, will make the opening address. Vic Romero, will share an update on the utility’s ambitious smart grid initiative. Two of the utility’s experienced transformer engineers will also contribute to the session on “Transformer Operations & Loading – A User’s Perspective”. SDG&E will also be offering seminar students tours of their Mission Control Center, the hub of their grid and distribution operations as well as their transformer and substation condition-based monitoring control center.
Doble is also providing complimentary passes for a number of SDG&E’s educational partners in an effort to share this training experience with the next generation of power industry workers. Both Doble and SDG&E have established relationships with colleges and universities to help the power industry address the concerns of an aging and retiring workforce.
More than 5,500 global delegates during the last 10 years have benefitted from Doble’s Life of a Transformer Seminar, which is considered to be critical training for power engineers thanks to its practical, real-world approach to training and the core and advanced tracks for new and seasoned engineers.
