Temporary Cable Test Terminations
Testing equipment for cable manufacturers or type testing laboratories.
Used to temporarily terminate shielded high voltage cables for testing. The application of high voltage to the cable requires a special process in order to eliminate partial discharge at the cable ends. The terminations are ideally suited to perform partial discharge (PD) measurements, impulse voltage testing, and tan delta (loss factor) measurements. The cable is prepared in the same way as for slip-on terminations; i.e., by stripping the cable to the outer semiconducting layer and removing the outer semiconducting layer.
Phenix Technologies, Model OT-100 is an oil insulated cable termination unit designed to provide PD free voltage testing up to 100 kV. The unit consists of a pair of oil terminations, as both ends of the cable ends require shielding.
Consisting of a pair of water terminations to be used with a water conditioning unit, the WTS series includes terminations available up to 800 kV for a maximum cable diameter of 165 mmm over the outer semiconducting layer.
Design features include:
Designed for use with cable terminations that use water as the resistive medium.
The major components of the conditioning unit consists of a process water holding tank, a de-ionization tank, brine water tank (used to raise water conductivity), water pump, water to water heat exchanger, connections for external cooling water, connections for two cable terminations, and control unit. PLC based controls to control the various valves, monitor flow rates, pressures, and temperatures of each termination circuit, monitor / adjust the conductivity of the water and monitor the flow in the internal and external cooling circuits.
